Explore the role and methods of facilities managers as they support an organization's long- and short-range objectives. Current and prospective facilities managers need strategic planning skills to ensure facilities are appropriately planned to meet the needs and changing requirements of building users over time. In this course, you develop an understanding of the organization and management of a facilities department, the strategic planning process, and how a facilities department achieves organizational goals. This course is ideal for individuals with prior professional or academic experience with facilities management.

Learner Outcomes
On successful completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe how the phases of strategic planning evolve from formulation and implementation to decision making in an organization.
- Acquire specific knowledge about leadership of the organization and how topics such as social responsibility, ethics, and structures drive organizations forward.
- Apply concepts such as Missions, Visions, Corporate Objectives, Strategies and Alliances, and understand how they affect strategy evaluation, control, and change.
- Distinguish between terms such as managing and measuring performance, balanced scorecard, and other key performance measures.
- Understand the role of top management and the Board of Directors in the organization and how the strategic plan is derived.
- Explain the impacts on Corporate Governance of rules, regulations, and laws, as well as sustainability, globalization and technology on facilities managers.
